Apple (AAPL) is developing a budget Mac laptop, its first move into the low-cost market, aimed at students, businesses, and casual users who typically buy Chromebooks or entry-level Windows PCs, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports. The device, code-named J700, is in testing and early production, with a launch planned for the first half of next year, according to people familiar with the matter.
