India is drafting new smartphone manufacturing incentives that link government subsidies to exports and use of locally made components, which will reward companies for shipping devices overseas and for deeper localization, with incentives tiered based on the extent of local value addition in each device, Bloomberg’s Alisha Sachdev and Santosh Kumar report. The move will benefit Apple (AAPL), Samsung (SSNLF), and their suppliers, people familiar with the matter say.
