Apple (AAPL) is in discussions to acquire the U.S. rights to screen Formula 1 as the company works to continue the success of its hit movie based on the race car series, Samuel Agini and Michael Acton of The Financial Times reports. Apple is challenging Disney’s (DIS) ESPN, which is currently Formula 1’s American broadcaster, when the contract becomes available next year, two people familiar with discussions said.
