Amazon (AMZN) has started laying the groundwork to open a big-box retail store in the Chicago suburbs, according to planning documents, The Information’s Ann Gehan reports. That marks a return to similar plans for a Target (TGT)-like store that Amazon shelved a few years ago. In recent weeks, Amazon has sought approval from the village of Orland Park, Ill., to construct a 225,000-square foot retail building that could be used for both in-store shopping and fulfillment of online orders. “The proposed development will offer a wide selection of products, including groceries and general merchandise, with accessory services and potentially dining locations for prepared food sold onsite,” Amazon wrote in a filing describing the development.
