Amazon, Meta support tripling of nuclear capacity by 2050, FT reports

Amazon (AMZN), Google (GOOGL), and Meta (META) have joined a World Nuclear Association statement, alongside Occidental (OXY), Dow (DOW), and others, to support the goal of tripling nuclear capacity by 2050, The Financial Times’ Malcolm Moore, Jamie Smyth, and Amanda Chu report. Microsoft (MSFT) and Apple (AAPL), which also use significant amounts of energy and have committed to reducing their carbon footprint, did not sign the statement, the report notes. Urvi Parekh, head of energy at Meta, said the tech company is backing the pledge because it believes the challenge of building expensive nuclear plants requires significant coordination between developers, utilities, governments, and power consumers.
