While Amazon generates a total of more than $670B a year in revenue, it has never become more than a minor player in the grocery sector, Dan Gallagher of The Wall Street Journal reports. This is even after its acquisition of Whole Foods Market and opening of over 60 stores under the Amazon Fresh brand. To bolster its strength in the sector, Amazon recently announced same-day delivery for fresh groceries in 1,000 U.S. cities and lowered the price threshold for free delivery to $25 from $100 for members of its Prime shipping service.
