Alibaba (BABA) is preparing to overhaul its main mobile AI app to resemble OpenAI’s ChatGPT and plans to rename it “Qwen,” Bloomberg’s Luz Ding reports. The company will add agentic-AI features to support shopping on platforms including the main Taobao marketplace and aims to make Qwen a fully functioning AI agent, according to people familiar with the matter who add that the revamped Qwen app will remain free to users for now, but building a user base will help Alibaba charge for consumer-facing services in the future.
