Alcoa (AA), at the Wolfe Research 2nd Annual Materials of the Future Conference, said that Spain is a “hot topic” with the big power outage. The company said that the company is not going to resume the restart of the smelter “until we get some answers from the government authorities on the root cause” of the power outage as well as the corrections that are being put in place to make sure it does not recur and “as well as understanding what higher costs will come if they need to manage the grid differently, what that looks like, how much of that is going to get passed on.”
