NVDS: built for a short position on NVDACHIP MARKET: Jensen Huang told CNBC that Nvidia (NVDA) has “largely conceded” China’s AI chip market to Huawei and should “expect nothing” regarding approvals to sell chips in China, telling Sara Eisen that “The demand in China is quite large.” Huang said that “Huawei is very, very strong. They had a record year, they’ll likely, very likely, have an extraordinary year coming up, and their local ecosystem of chip companies are doing quite well, because we’ve evacuated that market.” “We’ve really largely conceded that market to them,” he added.
CHIP EXPORT DOCS: Taiwanese officials are looking to detail three individuals for forging documents in order to export Nvidia chips to China, Hong Kong, and Macau in violation of U.S. trade rules, Mackenzie Hawkins and Yian Lee of Bloomberg reports. The volume was around 50 servers and the defendants were apprehended on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Keelung District Prosecutors Office said.
GITHUB: Microsoft (MSFT) had all the pieces to win in vibe coding, thanks to the near ubiquity of GitHub, which the company bought for $7.5B in 2018. But repeated outages, executive turnover, and the soaring popularity of newer tools like Cursor and Anthropic’s Claude Code have eaten away at GitHub’s early advantage in generative artificial intelligence, creating another challenge for Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella as he attempts to straighten out his company’s AI story, CNBC’s Jordan Novet writes. Microsoft, which widely promotes its Copilot technology, has lagged behind internet rivals in creating AI tools and services that resonate with users. That helps explain why its stock price is down 13% this year, trailing all of its megacap peers, the author adds.
