AI Daily: Google can train AI products with content even after opt-out

Catch up on the top artificial intelligence news and commentary by Wall Street analysts on publicly traded companies in the space with this daily recap compiled by The Fly:

TRAINING AI PRODUCTS: Google (GOOGL) can train its search-specific AI products on content across the web, even when the publishers have chosen to opt out of training Google’s AI products, Davey Alba of Bloomberg reports, citing comments made by a vice president of product. Google’s controls for publishers to opt out of AI training covers works by Google DeepMind, but other organizations at the company can further train the models for their products, DeepMind vice president Eli Collins said in court.

ACQUISITION COMPLETED: CoreWeave (CRWV) announced that it has completed its acquisition of Weights & Biases. The strategic combination strengthens CoreWeave’s capabilities to power AI innovation with the leading AI Cloud Platform and helps unleash the full potential of the world’s leading AI labs and enterprises, the company says. Together, CoreWeave and Weights & Biases plan to deliver the leading AI Cloud Platform—purpose-built to develop, deploy, and iterate AI faster.

ON THE SIDELINES: MoffettNathanson initiated coverage of CoreWeave with a Neutral rating and $43 price target. The bull case for CoreWeave “isn’t complicated,” as the company is a pure-play provider of AI infrastructure during a time of exploding demand and pinched supply, the firm tells investors. However, there are “substantial risks to consider” given that as GPU supply and demand eventually move into balance, large customers, most notably Microsoft (MSFT), may no longer need to lean as heavily on outsourced compute, MoffettNathanson added.

AI INVESTMENT CICLE: Nomura upgraded Kingsoft Cloud (KC) to Buy from Neutral with a price target of $18.30, up from $18.10. The firm thinks China’s AI investment cycle is accelerating in 2025, driven by large language model development lead by DeepSeek and Gen AI application development and believes Kingsoft Cloud is well positioned to benefit as one of the leading AI cloud infrastructure service providers in China, Nomura tells investors.
