AI Daily: CoreWeave enters multi-year agreement with Anthropic

MULTI-YEAR AGREEMENT: CoreWeave (CRWV) announced an agreement with Anthropic to support the development and deployment of Anthropic’s Claude family of AI models. The multi-year agreement will bring compute online starting later this year. CoreWeave joins Anthropic’s growing ecosystem of infrastructure partners helping to scale the adoption of Anthropic’s AI models across developers, startups, and enterprises worldwide. With the addition of Anthropic, nine of the leading ten AI model providers now leverage CoreWeave’s platform, reflecting the growing demand for infrastructure that can support AI at scale.

Under the agreement, Anthropic will use CoreWeave’s cloud platform to run workloads at production scale, while benefiting from its industry-leading performance and reliability. The collaboration between Anthropic and CoreWeave will initially focus on a phased infrastructure roll-out with the potential to expand over time.

AI CHIPS: Anthropic is weighing the possibility of designing its own AI chips, as the company and its competitors respond to a shortage of semiconductors needed to power and develop more advanced AI systems, Reuters’ Max Cherney and Deepa Seetharaman report, citing three sources. The plans are in preliminary stages, and the company could still opt to only purchase AI chips and not design any, the authors say, citing two people with knowledge of the matter and one person briefed on Anthropic’s plans. Publicly traded companies in the semiconductor space include AMD (AMD), Intel (INTC), Marvell (MRVL), Microchip (MCHP), Micron (MU), Nvidia (NVDA), Qualcomm (QCOM) and Texas Instruments (TXN).
