AI Daily: China bans tech companies from buying Nvidia’s AI chips

CHIP BAN: China’s internet regulator has ordered top technology firms to halt purchases of Nvidia’s (NVDA) AI chips and cancel existing orders as part of a broader push to cut reliance on U.S. technology, The Financial Times’ Zijing Wu and Cheng Leng report, citing three people with knowledge of the matter. The move comes days after China accused the company of violating its anti-monopoly law.

AI CONTENT-SHARING PACT: Reddit (RDDT) is in early talks with Alphabet’s (GOOG, GOOGL) Google about another generative AI content-sharing agreement, according to Bloomberg’s Riley Griffin, Davey Alba and Shirin Ghaffary. Reddit, which inked its first data-sharing deal with Google over a year and a half ago for a reported $60M, is in talks for “deeper integration with Google’s AI products,” according to Bloomberg, citing executives familiar with the discussions. Reddit, Google and OpenAI declined to comment on discussions related to future potential agreements.

AI GLASSES: Chinese hardware maker Goertek is strengthening its grip on Meta‘s (META) AI glasses supply chain, including making “Hypernova,” through a series of dealmaking, Hannah Murphy and Eleanor Olcott of The Financial Times report. The Chinese hardware supplier’s dealmaking includes taking control of Shanghai OmniLight, which makes micro-nano optical devices used in smart glasses, and helping to finance a takeover of optics supplier Plessey, according to the report.

COPILOT AI: The House of Representatives will begin using Microsoft (MSFT) Copilot in a move to embrace AI and modernize the chamber, Maria Curi of Axios reports. According to an announcement shared with the publication, the House wants AI integrated into its daily operations.

AI DATA CENTER: CoreWeave (CRWV) “announced the next GBP 1.5B phase of its investment in AI data center capacity and operations in the United Kingdom, bringing the total investment in the country to GBP 2.5B. The investment is designed to power the next wave of AI innovation by building facilities that prioritize sustainability and environmental responsibility. The announcement took place during a State Visit by President Donald J. Trump to the U.K., and is intended to help address the U.K.’s critical need for state-of-the-art infrastructure tailored for the responsible advancement of AI workloads at scale. CoreWeave’s investment will help accelerate the U.K. Government’s Compute Roadmap and provide AI labs, enterprises, the public sector, research institutions and startups with advanced, purpose-built AI infrastructure to drive innovation and growth. It will also support local job creation across engineering, operations and related services.”
