For a while, EV maker Tesla (TSLA) has been struggling in Germany, with weak sales and declining demand. However, the latest data shows a very different picture. According to Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority, Tesla’s vehicle registrations in March 2026 jumped by more than four times compared to last year. In total, Tesla registered 9,252 vehicles, up 315% year-over-year. As a result, this was the company’s strongest March ever in Germany and points to a sharp rebound after a weaker period in 2025.

New trading tool for TSLA bearsUnsurprisingly, this strong March had a big impact on Tesla’s overall quarterly results. In fact, March alone accounted for about 72% of Tesla’s total first-quarter registrations in Germany. For the full quarter, the company registered 12,829 vehicles, which is a 160% increase compared to the same period last year. By comparison, March 2025 had only about 2,229 registrations. Meanwhile, Germany’s overall car market also grew, with total registrations up 16% and electric vehicle sales up 66%. Importantly, Tesla still holds a strong position within that growing EV market.
The company captured about 13% of electric vehicle sales in March and about 3% of the total car market. This is especially notable given rising competition from German automakers and companies like BYD (BYDDF), which also saw strong growth. At the same time, Tesla’s Model Y and Model 3 continue to attract buyers, helped by government incentives and better EV infrastructure. While it is still unclear whether this surge will continue or was driven by factors such as pricing changes or delayed demand, the data clearly show that Tesla remains competitive in one of the world’s toughest car markets.
