Stock Futures Fall Despite Trump Extending Iran Strike Pause

U.S. stock futures fell on Friday morning, even after President Donald Trump extended the pause on potential strikes against Iran’s energy infrastructure until April 6. While the delay aims to give more time to a potential resolution, investors remain concerned about geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and elevated oil prices. Futures on the Nasdaq 100 (NDX), the S&P 500 Index (SPX), and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) were down 0.65%, 0.43%, and 0.42%, respectively, at 8:30 a.m. EST on March 27.

Oil prices trended higher amid uncertainty about a resolution of the U.S.-Iran conflict. At the time of writing, the global oil benchmark Brent (CM:BZ) was up 2.82% to trade at $111.17 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude (CM:CL) rose 2.61% to $96.97 per barrel.

During Thursday’s regular trading, the three major indexes closed lower amid persistent tensions in the Middle East. The Dow Jones fell 1.01%, while the Nasdaq Composite and the S&P 500 declined 2.38% and 1.74%, respectively. Notably, the Nasdaq Composite fell into correction territory, down more than 10% from its record level in October 2025.

Turning to trending stocks, shares of pharma giant AstraZeneca (AZN) rose about 4% in Friday’s pre-market trading after its experimental drug, tozorakimab, was found to significantly reduce flare-ups in cases of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Unity Software (U) stock rallied more than 13% after the platform for game developers reported preliminary Q1 numbers that exceeded expectations.
