Silksong Release Date Revealed: When Will the New Hollow Knight Game Come to Sony, Microsoft & Nintendo Consoles?

Hollow Knight: Silksong finally has a release date after six years of waiting since its initial reveal. Team Cherry, the developers behind the game, have revealed that Silksong will launch on September 4, 2025. It will be available on Sony’s (SONY) PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Microsoft’s (MSFT) Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo’s (NTDOF) Switch and Switch 2, and PC.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was in development for seven years, following the success of Hollow Knight. The developers initially envisioned the game as downloadable content for Hollow Knight, before turning it into its own title. One reason for the delay was expanding plans. Team Cherry developers William Pellen and Ari Gibson said that they had to stop themselves from continuing to build on the game and let its release date slip even further than it already had. They noted the last two years of development have been dedicated to polishing the game and adding small details.

Why Did Silksong Updates Stop?

Hollow Knight: Silksong largely disappeared from the public eye after its announcement on February 14, 2019. Team Cherry noted that this was intentional, as the developer didn’t want to expose too many of the game’s secrets before its release. The near radio silence resulted in the game’s delayed release becoming an internet meme. However, that meme will finally end when the game is launched next month.

Which Platform Will See the Most Hollow Knight: Silksong Sales?

Team Cherry will likely see large support from PC gamers, with the game being sold through Steam and other platforms. In fact, there are already 4.8 million users on Steam who have added Silksong to their wishlists, showing that demand for the game is massive. Nintendo and Sony will likely see the majority of console sales, while Microsoft’s smaller user base will lead to fewer copies sold on the platform.

Of the three console makers, analysts favor Microsoft the most with a consensus Strong Buy rating, while Sony and Nintendo have Moderate Buy ratings. However, this has more to do with its artificial intelligence (AI) business than Xbox’s gaming operations.
