Waste Connections: Strong Q1 Beat, Margin Expansion, and Capital Deployment Support Buy Rating

William Blair analyst Trevor Romeo has maintained their bullish stance on WCN stock, giving a Buy rating on April 16.

Meet Samuel – Your Personal Investing Prophet

Trevor Romeo’s rating is based on Waste Connections delivering a stronger-than-expected first quarter across key financial metrics, including revenue, adjusted EBITDA, and adjusted EPS, all of which surpassed consensus estimates. The outperformance was supported by particularly robust results in the E&P segment and recycling operations, as well as incremental benefits from intermodal revenue tied to a new RNG project coming online.

He also points to expanding margins, with adjusted EBITDA margin improving year-over-year on favorable price-cost dynamics, better operational performance, and a smaller-than-anticipated drag from commodities despite temporary fuel headwinds. In addition, Romeo highlights higher-than-expected acquisition contributions, stepped-up share repurchase activity, and elevated but timing-related capital spending, which together reinforce his positive outlook and support his Buy recommendation on the stock.

In another report released on April 16, BMO Capital also maintained a Buy rating on the stock with a $206.00 price target.
