Reaffirming Buy on Anavex: Long-Term Value in Blarcamesine Outweighs Near-Term Regulatory Setbacks

Analyst Ram Selvaraju from H.C. Wainwright reiterated a Buy rating on Anavex Life Sciences and keeping the price target at $20.00.

Meet Samuel – Your Personal Investing Prophet

Ram Selvaraju has given his Buy rating due to a combination of factors related to Anavex’s regulatory and clinical outlook. He views the recent withdrawal of the European marketing application for blarcamesine in Alzheimer’s disease as a timing setback rather than a thesis‑breaking event, since his model already assumed commercialization beginning in 2028. He also highlights that the company still has several years of cash runway at its current spending pace and is actively working with both the EMA and FDA to refine the development path in early Alzheimer’s and other neurological conditions.

Selvaraju additionally points to continuing FDA interactions that could allow a U.S. regulatory filing for blarcamesine in Alzheimer’s as early as later this year, subject to the agency’s assessment of existing Phase 2b/3 data. His valuation is driven by a DCF model that assigns substantial value to blarcamesine across Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease dementia, and Rett syndrome, even after incorporating conservative approval probabilities and a relatively high discount rate. On this basis, he arrives at a firm value that supports a $20 twelve‑month price target, leading him to reaffirm a Buy recommendation despite the near‑term regulatory uncertainty.
