MaxLinear: Improving 2026 Outlook and Data Center Momentum Offset by SIMO Arbitration Overhang, Justifying Hold Rating

Quinn Bolton has given his Hold rating due to a combination of factors that balance improving fundamentals with lingering uncertainty. He notes that MaxLinear slightly exceeded expectations for the fourth quarter of 2025 and issued guidance for the first quarter of 2026 that was ahead of consensus, reflecting a healthier demand backdrop. The company is seeing rising momentum from new design wins in both its Infrastructure and Broadband segments, and its Keystone PAM4 DSP product line is now projected to deliver meaningfully higher revenue in 2026, powered by expanding 400G and 800G deployments in hyperscale data centers across the U.S. and Asia. In addition, MaxLinear secured its first PON data center engagement with a leading U.S. Tier-1 OEM and executed a $20 million share repurchase, which together signal management’s confidence in the company’s prospects, balance sheet, and cash generation.

At the same time, Bolton refrains from upgrading the stock because a key overhang remains unresolved. Specifically, he emphasizes that the upcoming arbitration decision related to the SIMO matter could materially influence MaxLinear’s financial and strategic position, and that this binary event introduces risk that is difficult to handicap in advance. Until there is clarity on that outcome, he views the stock’s risk/reward as balanced, even in light of the operational recovery and stronger outlook for 2026. As a result, he concludes that a Hold rating is appropriate while awaiting resolution of the arbitration process.

In another report released today, Roth MKM also maintained a Hold rating on the stock with a $18.00 price target.
