Vanessa Jeffriess has given his Buy rating due to a combination of factors that balance near-term trading challenges against Judges Scientific’s structural strengths and self-help actions. While recent order trends have deteriorated, particularly in the US and offshore wind-linked demand, she views these pressures as cyclical rather than structural, with underlying demand in China and the rest of Europe holding up reasonably well. Jeffriess notes that management is already acting to right-size the cost base and protect margins as the order book has shortened, which should help earnings resilience while end markets remain weak. The lack of visibility on a quick recovery and a softer EPS outlook versus consensus are, in her view, already substantially reflected in the share price following prior weakness.
At the same time, Jeffriess sees scope for operational ‘progress’ as internal issues are contained and efficiencies are implemented, positioning the group to benefit disproportionately when demand normalizes. She considers Judges’ niche positions in scientific instrumentation, its track record of disciplined execution, and its diversified geographic exposure (outside the currently weak US) as key supports for the investment case. Although the M&A environment is currently difficult and Geotek’s slowdown is a drag, these factors are treated as temporary headwinds that do not undermine the company’s long-term growth potential. On this basis, she concludes that the risk‑reward profile has turned attractive, justifying a Buy recommendation despite near-term earnings pressure.

JDG’s price has also changed dramatically for the past six months – from p8140.000 to p4820.000, which is a -40.79% drop .
