Pulte Highlights Plagiarism Claims Against Fed’s Cook

Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director Bill Pulte shared an article from City Journal and Daily Wire on Friday that raises concerns of plagiarism by Fed Governor Lisa Cook. Earlier this week, the Justice Department opened an investigation into Cook for alleged mortgage fraud first brought to light by Pulte.

City Journal conducted an investigation into academic papers published by Cook throughout the past decade, concluding that she “appears to have” copied language from other authors without using quotation marks and duplicated her work, along with her coauthor’s work, without the necessary attribution.

Cook Accused of Copying Passages in Academic Papers

In her 2021 piece titled “The Antebellum Roots of Distinctively Black Names,” Cook allegedly copied a paragraph previously written by authors Charles Calomiris and Jonathan Pritchett. Cook cites the authors but did not include quotation marks around the paragraph, which was copied verbatim except for two words.

City Journal adds that Cook’s “Closing the Innovation Gap In Pink and Black” paper received government subsidies, although she still allegedly copied around 70 words from researchers Charles Becker, Cecilia Elena Rouse, and Mingyu Chen without quotes.

Cook was a professor at Michigan State University when these papers were published, and her lack of quotation marks could potentially be in violation of its guidebook.
