The Government Accountability Office (GAO) said it will launch an investigation into Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director Bill Pulte over whether he abused his power and government resources when accusing perceived enemies of President Trump of breaking the law, according to Reuters. In November, eight Democratic senators penned a letter to the congressional watchdog requesting an investigation into Pulte’s actions.

“Mr. Pulte’s public accusations appear to have solely targeted prominent Democrats and public officials, including those President Trump has publicly threatened with political and criminal retribution,” wrote the senators.
Pulte Accuses Officials of Mortgage Fraud
Since Trump took office, Pulte has accused New York Attorney General Letitia James, Fed Governor Lisa Cook, and Democratic Senator Adam Schiff of committing mortgage fraud. James was indicted on charges of bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution, although the case was dismissed by a federal judge last month. Both Cook and Schiff have denied any legal wrongdoing.
“Instead of bringing down sky-high housing costs, Bill Pulte is weaponizing his role to take on Trump’s perceived political enemies,” said Senator Elizabeth Warren on Thursday. “He must be held accountable for this abuse of power.”
