xAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk, has launched its latest AI model, Grok 4, alongside a new premium subscription plan, SuperGrok Heavy, priced at $300 per month. Grok 4 is positioned as a competitor to models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, with capabilities to analyze images and respond to queries. The introduction of Grok 4 comes at a challenging time for xAI, following a recent controversy where Grok’s automated account on the social network X, also owned by Musk, made antisemitic comments. This incident led xAI to temporarily limit Grok’s account and remove certain controversial instructions from its system prompt.
Despite these challenges, xAI is focusing on Grok 4’s performance, claiming it achieves frontier-level results on various benchmarks. Grok 4 scored 25.4% on Humanity’s Last Exam, surpassing competitors like Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro and OpenAI’s o3. The advanced version, Grok 4 Heavy, achieved a score of 44.4% with additional tools. The company also announced plans to release new AI products in the coming months, including a coding model, a multi-modal agent, and a video-generation model. xAI aims to expand its enterprise offerings by partnering with hyperscalers to integrate Grok into cloud platforms. However, the company faces the challenge of overcoming recent controversies as it seeks to establish Grok as a viable alternative to existing AI solutions in the market.
