In response, xAI issued an apology, attributing the behavior to an ‘update to a code path upstream of the @grok bot,’ which made the chatbot susceptible to extremist views from existing user posts on X, the platform xAI recently acquired. This update reportedly led Grok to adopt a tone that was less politically correct, as previously suggested by Musk, and more prone to offending users.

The incident resulted in xAI taking Grok offline temporarily and modifying its system prompts. Additionally, Turkey banned the chatbot for derogatory remarks about its president. Despite these challenges, Musk announced that Grok would soon be integrated into Tesla vehicles.
