X Square Robot has secured approximately US$140 million (RMB 1 billion) in a Series A++ round, significantly extending its funding runway to industrialize general-purpose embodied AI in China and beyond. The round brought in new strategic investors including ByteDance and HongShan, adding to an existing cap table that already includes Alibaba Group and Meituan, and signals strong institutional conviction in the company’s model-centric approach to robotics. CEO and founder Wang Qian said the capital will accelerate development of the firm’s “robot brain” foundation model for the physical world, designed to break generalization bottlenecks in real-world tasks in a way analogous to how large language models transformed virtual reasoning.

Founded in December 2023, X Square Robot has built WALL-A, an in-house vision-language-action (VLA) foundation model tightly integrated with World Models and trained via large-scale real-robot reinforcement learning, enabling zero-shot generalization in unstructured environments. The company has also launched WALL-OSS, an open-source variant intended to seed a broader ecosystem while feeding a closed-loop pipeline that links hardware design, data collection, and model evolution. X Square Robot has demonstrated fully autonomous, foundation model–driven food delivery using its Quanta X1 wheeled bimanual robot, which completed indoor-outdoor missions in open environments without human intervention, and has extended the same stack to complex logistics tasks and dexterous manipulation with high-DoF hands. To support scaling, the company is vertically integrating core components and deploying two main platforms—Quanta X1 and the Quanta X2 wheeled humanoid robot—into high-value sectors including advanced manufacturing, autonomous logistics, and eldercare, positioning the business to convert its technical lead and data assets into commercial deployments and future recurring revenue at scale.
