According to a recent LinkedIn post from X-Energy Reactor Company LLC, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has granted TRISO-X a Special Nuclear Material License under Part 70. The authorization covers commercial manufacture of HALEU nuclear fuel at the company’s first two fuel facilities, TX-1 and TX-2, under an initial 40-year license.

The post indicates that Part 70 approval makes TX-1 and TX-2 the first new fuel facilities licensed by the NRC in more than 50 years. It also suggests TX-1 is on track to become the first Category II nuclear fuel facility, supporting the development of a domestic commercial source of TRISO fuel for the first time in the U.S.
From an investor perspective, the licensing milestone points to reduced regulatory risk for X-Energy’s fuel supply chain and could accelerate commercialization of its next-generation nuclear technology. Establishing a stable HALEU and TRISO fuel capability may enhance the company’s competitive position in advanced reactors, potentially improving long-term revenue visibility if customer adoption follows.
The post also emphasizes the role of TRISO-X’s technical team and frames fuel production as foundational to scaling the broader X-Energy platform. While financial terms and project economics are not disclosed, the long-duration license and first-mover status in Category II fuel facilities may support future partnerships, project financing, and government or utility engagement in the advanced nuclear sector.
