Verkada Expands AI Security Platform With Next-Gen Cameras and Access Control

New updates have been reported about Verkada.

Verkada has rolled out a broad upgrade to its AI-driven physical security platform, introducing new generations of bullet cameras, access control hardware, expanded AI alerts, and sector-specific visitor management features. The move strengthens Verkada’s position in enterprise and public-sector security, with an emphasis on reliability, regulatory compliance, and more automated incident detection.

The new third-generation bullet cameras, offered in wide-angle and telephoto variants at 5MP and 4K resolutions, deliver higher video quality while supporting advanced AI features such as unified timelines, activity detection, and license plate recognition. Optional infrared and white light illuminator attachments are designed to improve performance in low-light environments, which is critical for customers securing large outdoor or perimeter sites.

Verkada also expanded its AI alerting capabilities with inactivity detection that flags when people or vehicles are absent from a defined area for a specified time, targeting use cases such as unattended access points or early store closures. The company added vehicle line-crossing detection and extended line-crossing and loitering triggers to compatible third-party cameras via Command Connector, allowing customers to enhance existing camera deployments without full hardware replacement.

On the emergency response side, Verkada updated its Command platform to align door lock and unlock configurations with the “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s widely adopted Standard Response Protocol, including Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter scenarios. With these protocols reportedly used by tens of thousands of schools and agencies globally, the alignment is likely to increase Verkada’s relevance in K–12, higher education, and government segments.

In access control, Verkada launched the AC43 four-door controller with redesigned circuitry aimed at better reliability and built-in support for cellular backup to maintain connectivity during primary network outages. For high-compliance environments, the AC43-G variant offers FIPS-validated encryption, enabling government agencies and contractors to deploy a fully managed, compliant access control stack across one-, four-, and sixteen-door configurations.

The company’s AF64 Access Station Pro is now generally available, combining a multi-technology credential reader, a 5MP wide-angle camera, a single-door controller, and a touchscreen into one device to simplify deployments and reduce hardware sprawl. Verkada is also deepening its push into healthcare by enhancing its Guest product to support differentiated check-in workflows for adults and minors, custom questionnaires, integrated document signing, and automatic language translation to meet clinical, compliance, and patient experience needs.

Collectively, these releases broaden Verkada’s hardware footprint and software feature set in video security, access control, and visitor management, which can increase average deal sizes and reduce churn through deeper platform integration. While commercial terms were not disclosed, the combination of next-generation devices, AI-driven detections, and public-sector-grade compliance features positions Verkada to compete more aggressively for enterprise, education, healthcare, and government contracts. Executives evaluating physical security vendors should view this update as a signal that Verkada is investing for scale and aiming to be a single-vendor platform for modern, cloud-based building security.
