VAST Data has announced a significant expansion of its partnership with Google Cloud, introducing the first fully managed service for its AI Operating System (AI OS). This collaboration allows enterprises to deploy the VAST AI OS across hybrid environments, utilizing the VAST DataSpace to seamlessly connect clusters on Google Cloud and on-premises locations. This development addresses the challenges of data migration and fragmented storage, providing consistent, high-throughput data access essential for AI operations. By enabling data placement flexibility, VAST and Google Cloud are simplifying AI deployment, reducing governance burdens, and enhancing performance.
In a demonstration, VAST showcased the capability of its DataSpace to connect clusters over 10,000 kilometers apart, linking the U.S. and Japan. This setup allowed for near real-time data access and efficient workload placement, enabling AI models to run on TPUs in the U.S. and GPUs in Japan without data duplication. The integration with Google Cloud’s infrastructure, including Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) virtual machines, enhances performance, as evidenced by testing with Meta’s Llama-3.1-8B-Instruct model. The VAST AI OS demonstrated model load speeds comparable to leading cloud options, ensuring continuous AI pipeline motion. This partnership positions VAST Data as a pivotal player in the AI landscape, offering a scalable, enterprise-grade platform that accelerates digital transformation and AI deployment for its customers.
