Upwind Secures $250M at $1.5B Valuation to Scale ‘Inside-Out’ Cloud Security Platform

Upwind has cemented itself as a leading player in cloud security, raising a $250 million Series B at a $1.5 billion valuation and posting 900% year-over-year revenue growth since its $100 million Series A in 2024. The company’s core differentiator is its “runtime” or “inside-out” security model, which prioritizes real-time threats in active services using internal signals such as network traffic and API calls, allowing security teams to focus on issues that truly matter rather than noise generated by traditional, external-only scans. This approach has attracted large, data-intensive customers with complex cloud footprints, including Siemens, Peloton, Roku, Wix, Nextdoor and Nubank, and has enabled Upwind to double its customer base while expanding geographically from the U.S., U.K. and Israel into Australia, India, Singapore and Japan.

CEO and co-founder Amiram Shachar, who previously sold Spot.io to NetApp for about $450 million, built Upwind after experiencing firsthand how conventional cloud security tools lacked operational context, generating alerts that did not map to real risk. He positions Upwind’s model as a response to the rise of ephemeral infrastructure—containers, serverless workloads, AI agents and API-heavy environments—that he argues cannot be effectively secured from the outside-in. Despite initial customer hesitation and a crowded security market, Upwind chose to build a broad, integrated platform rather than a point solution, a strategy it views as critical for winning adoption in overstretched security teams. The latest round, led by Bessemer Venture Partners with participation from Salesforce Ventures and Picture Capital, will fund continued product development, expansion of AI-driven security capabilities across the platform, and deeper integration into developer workflows to prevent misconfigurations before production—moves that collectively aim to increase platform stickiness, expand wallet share and reinforce Upwind’s positioning as a strategic security partner for large cloud-native enterprises.
