Upway has appointed Nathan Wilson as Chief Technology Officer to lead an accelerated technology build-out that includes 50 new tech and product hires and roughly $15 million in R&D spending over the next 18 to 24 months. The move signals a shift toward a mobile-first and AI-enabled marketplace, with Wilson tasked to strengthen the company’s proprietary platform as it scales refurbished e-bike operations across nine markets, including the U.S. and major European countries.
Under Wilson’s leadership, Upway plans to launch an all-in-one mobile app that will let customers buy, sell, and manage refurbished electric bikes, while embedding artificial intelligence to refine purchasing, resale, and pricing journeys. His prior experience leading engineering teams for Amazon, Indeed, and DoorDash in operationally complex, high-growth markets is expected to support Upway’s ambition to industrialize refurbished e-bike flows, expand complementary services such as financing and insurance, and progress toward its target of putting more than one million refurbished e-bikes back into circulation by 2030.
