TRISO-X Secures NRC License for HALEU Fuel Facilities, Marking Key Regulatory Milestone

According to a recent LinkedIn post from X-Energy Reactor Company LLC, TRISO-X has received a Special Nuclear Material License under Part 70 from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The post indicates this authorization covers the commercial manufacture of HALEU nuclear fuel at the company’s first two fuel facilities under an initial 40-year license.

The company’s LinkedIn post highlights that Part 70 approval makes facilities TX-1 and TX-2 the first new fuel facilities licensed by the NRC in more than 50 years. The post further suggests that TX-1 is on track to become the first-ever Category II nuclear fuel facility, positioning TRISO-X as a potential early supplier of a commercial TRISO fuel source in the U.S.

For investors, the post points to a regulatory milestone that may de-risk a key part of X-Energy’s fuel supply chain and support future revenue generation tied to advanced nuclear projects. Establishing licensed HALEU and TRISO fuel manufacturing capacity could strengthen the company’s competitive position in next-generation nuclear technology, particularly as demand for advanced reactor fuel develops over the coming decades.

The long-term nature of the 40-year license, as described in the post, may also provide planning visibility for capital deployment and potential partnerships around fuel production. However, commercial impact will depend on the pace of advanced reactor deployment, customer offtake agreements, and the company’s ability to scale these facilities efficiently within the broader regulatory and market environment.
