TransPerfect Legal has entered a strategic technology partnership with Merlin Search Technologies that embeds its proprietary Reef ECA processing engine at the core of Merlin’s Alchemy discovery platform. Under the agreement, Merlin will standardize on Reef ECA across all Alchemy cloud instances, positioning TransPerfect’s technology as the default processing layer for high-volume litigation and investigation workflows.

The integration links TransPerfect’s large-scale early case assessment capabilities with Alchemy’s generative AI–driven review, creating a unified, end-to-end eDiscovery pipeline from data ingestion through document analysis. By culling data volumes by more than 90% on average before AI review, Reef ECA is intended to cut cost, reduce cycle time, and simplify vendor management for law firms and corporate legal departments.

TransPerfect President and Co-CEO Phil Shawe emphasized that clients are demanding reduced complexity in discovery, and the combined offering is designed to deliver a single, intuitive workflow without compromising control or compliance. For TransPerfect, the deal extends the footprint of its Reef Technology ecosystem into Merlin’s installed base, strengthening its position in legal technology and reinforcing its strategy of pairing language and AI solutions with specialized industry platforms.

The partnership also aligns TransPerfect with a cloud-native, SOC 2 Type II–certified environment deployed across major legal markets, which may support additional global adoption of Reef ECA. As generative AI reshapes document review and case strategy, this integration enhances TransPerfect’s relevance in the legal tech stack, potentially driving incremental processing volumes, deepening relationships with Am Law 200 and Global 100 clients, and creating cross-sell opportunities for its broader suite of legal and language services.
