Taya has secured a $5 million seed round led by MaC Venture Capital and Female Founders Fund, with additional participation from a16z speedrun, to accelerate development of its AI-powered necklace designed for intentional, user-controlled voice capture. Founded by Stanford-trained engineer and former Apple hardware designer Elena Wagenmans, the San Francisco-based company is positioning its device as jewelry-first AI that records only short, deliberate voice snippets, avoiding continuous environmental surveillance and aligning product architecture with strict privacy expectations.

The company is transitioning from early validation to execution after generating 3 million organic views across social platforms and selling out its initial pre-order batch, using direct feedback from early adopters to refine both hardware and software around daily usability, privacy, and long-term data retention. With directional microphones and voice-prioritization signal processing that focus on the wearer rather than the room, Taya is targeting frequent, brief captures of ideas, reminders, and creative thoughts instead of meeting transcription or always-on recording, and plans to fulfill its first pre-order units later this year before expanding availability, signaling an upcoming commercialization phase that investors and partners will watch closely for adoption, retention, and hardware engagement metrics.
