Summit Ridge Energy has commissioned a 1.62 MW rooftop community solar project in Melrose Park, Illinois, reinforcing its position as a leading developer and owner-operator of distributed solar in one of the country’s most active community solar markets. Built on an industrial facility owned by LBA Logistics and facilitated with Black Bear Energy, the site will supply more than 2 million kWh of clean power annually into the grid under the Illinois Shines Traditional Community Solar program, with subscribers – including low-to-moderate income households – expected to cut electricity bills by roughly 10–20% without installing their own systems.
The project, located within both an Illinois-designated Environmental Justice Community and a federally defined Energy Community, qualifies for Illinois Shines incentives including a Rooftop Adder that rewards redeployment of existing roofs over greenfield land, enhancing project economics for Summit Ridge. This installation adds to the company’s 553 MW of community solar in Illinois and more than 3 GW nationally in operation or development, and extends a decade-long portfolio relationship in which Summit Ridge has also delivered 17.5 MW of community solar on LBA’s Maryland properties and supported an additional 5.5 MW across two Illinois sites. Executives at Summit Ridge characterize Illinois as a core strategic market where policy support, grid needs, and equity-focused programs align, suggesting continued pipeline growth as the company deploys the $6 billion in project capital it has raised to date and leverages long-term partnerships to scale community solar and storage assets that provide recurring revenue, local job creation, and grid-resilience benefits.
