Sirona Medical Ramps Up AI Radiology Strategy as PowerScribe Sunset Opens Market Shift

Sirona Medical, a private radiology software company, used the week to sharpen its positioning as an AI-driven alternative to legacy dictation tools, particularly Nuance’s PowerScribe 360 as it approaches sunset. The company is promoting an image- and voice-driven reporting workflow that acts like a resident-level assistant, automatically pulling prior studies, inserting measurements, suggesting report structures, and running quality checks.

These capabilities are being marketed as already in production use, not just concepts, with Sirona leaning on LinkedIn campaigns, webinars, eBooks, and live demos to reach radiology groups reassessing their reporting stacks. Management frames current radiology workflows as outdated and clerical-heavy, arguing its “pixel-powered, image-driven” platform better matches how radiologists interpret studies and could help alleviate burnout.

Sirona reports that hundreds of U.S. radiologists and practices are using its tools, signaling adoption beyond pilots and into live clinical workflows. A highlighted deployment with Independent Medical Consultants, a Midwest group serving rural and underserved communities, showcased a browser-based PACS and reporting solution that eliminated on-premise hardware and supported rapid go-live for lower-volume sites.

Commercially, Sirona deepened its relationships through a Diamond Sponsorship of Strategic Radiology, LLC, a consortium of independent radiology practices, including plans for a vendor spotlight session and presence at the group’s Spring Summit in Arizona. This move is aimed at concentrating sales and feedback efforts among key decision-makers who oversee multi-site practices and high imaging volumes.

The company is also entering a hiring phase, adding engineering, sales, and finance roles to scale product development and go-to-market execution around the PowerScribe transition. While this implies higher near-term operating expenses, it reflects management’s intent to capture share during a sizable replacement cycle in radiology IT and expand recurring software revenue tied to workflow automation and AI-enabled reporting.

Overall, the week underscored Sirona Medical’s strategy of leveraging the PowerScribe 360 sunset, rising imaging volumes, and demand for cloud-native infrastructure to promote its AI-driven reporting platform, deepen strategic partnerships, and position itself for a larger role in the radiology software market.
