Sapphire Technologies Taps AI Data Center Boom With Anax Power Partnership

New updates have been reported about Sapphire Technologies.

Sapphire Technologies has entered a strategic partnership with Anax Power to deploy its FreeSpin® In-line Turboexpander at a co-located data center that converts excess natural gas pipeline pressure into emission-free power and cooling. Under the deal, Sapphire supplies the core pressure energy recovery technology, while Anax finances, builds, owns, and operates the integrated system, with commissioning of the initial project expected later this year.

By embedding Sapphire’s turboexpanders directly at gas pipeline pressure-regulating stations, the partners aim to create a scalable template for distributed AI and high-performance computing data centers that avoid utility interconnection bottlenecks and multi-year grid upgrade delays. The model targets thousands of suitable pipeline sites across North America, where typical installations can deliver up to 3 megawatts of electricity and roughly 35 million BTU of cooling, enabling low-cost power, improved Power Usage Effectiveness metrics, and new revenue streams for infrastructure owners while positioning Sapphire at the center of an emerging infrastructure-first approach to AI compute expansion.
