SandboxAQ has entered into a strategic agreement with the Department of War’s Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) to participate in the Transition of Quantum Sensing (TQS) program. This collaboration aims to advance the development and testing of SandboxAQ’s AQNav magnetic navigation software for military applications, particularly in environments where Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are unreliable. The TQS program, part of DIU’s Emerging Technologies portfolio, seeks to integrate commercial quantum sensing technologies to bolster Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) resilience. SandboxAQ’s AQNav software, known for its dual-use capabilities, will be deployed to demonstrate robust navigation solutions independent of external signals. The initiative will involve real-world demonstrations and data collection to align with Department of War use-cases.

Luca Ferrara, General Manager of AQNav at SandboxAQ, emphasized the importance of AQNav as a non-GPS-reliant navigation solution, highlighting its readiness for expanded military evaluations. The collaboration with DIU underscores SandboxAQ’s commitment to providing cutting-edge technologies to address complex PNT challenges faced by the military. The TQS program’s focus on quantum sensors aims to transition these advanced technologies from the lab to practical military applications, addressing urgent needs for resilient navigation in GPS-denied scenarios. SandboxAQ’s involvement in this program positions it at the forefront of innovation in quantum navigation, potentially impacting future military operations and enhancing strategic capabilities.
