Rivian R2 Nears Production After Extensive Extreme-Condition Testing

According to a recent LinkedIn post from EV Co, Rivian Automotive’s upcoming R2 crossover has moved into final validation testing after what is described as years of durability trials in extreme conditions. The post notes testing spanned temperatures from -45°F to 122°F, including Death Valley heat, sub-zero winters in Fairbanks, deep-water crossings, sand driving, and maximum towing.

The company’s LinkedIn post highlights that the R2’s thermal systems are designed to keep the cabin comfortable while safeguarding battery and electronic components under harsh environmental stress. The post also suggests chassis and suspension components were engineered for long-term durability and simplified serviceability, aiming to position the R2 as both a daily commuter and off-road-capable vehicle.
