Rivian Automotive has filed preliminary plans with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to develop a $9.5 million, 46,000-square-foot vehicle service and sales center in Round Rock, north of Austin. The proposed facility, located at 140 Crossroads Drive on a 4.6-acre undeveloped parcel currently marketed by Jones Lang LaSalle and linked to CSW Development entities, is scheduled for construction from March through March 2027, though the filings are preliminary and subject to change. No deed transfer has been recorded yet, and involved parties have not commented publicly.
For investors, this planned project underscores Rivian’s continued capital deployment to expand its retail and service network in a key growth market for electric vehicles. A larger physical footprint in the Austin area could support higher sales volumes, improve after-sales service coverage, and strengthen brand presence in Texas, a state with growing EV adoption. However, the multi-year construction timeline and $9.5 million estimated cost add to Rivian’s fixed investment base and could weigh on near-term cash flows. Execution risk remains, given the preliminary status of the filings and lack of finalized property transfer. Strategically, if completed as planned, the facility would enhance Rivian’s competitive positioning against other EV manufacturers building out service infrastructure in major U.S. metros, potentially supporting long-term revenue growth and customer retention, but with continued pressure on capital intensity in the medium term.
