Ritual is expanding its retail footprint by launching its Essential Prenatal Multivitamin in approximately 200 Costco warehouses across nine Western U.S. states, marking a significant scale-up in offline distribution for the privately held women’s health company. The product, positioned as the #1 best-selling prenatal in the U.S. based on industry sales data, will be sold in a Costco-exclusive 2-pack (120 capsules) at $48.99, providing a value offering that could accelerate volume while reinforcing brand visibility with a mass, health-conscious consumer base. This move deepens Ritual’s omnichannel strategy, complementing its direct-to-consumer model with a high-traffic, trusted retail partner known for stringent product standards. Founder and CEO Katerina Schneider framed the partnership as aligned with Costco’s focus on safety and efficacy, which is central to Ritual’s positioning around clinical validation and ingredient transparency.
Ritual’s Essential Prenatal is the only leading prenatal multivitamin backed by its own randomized, double-blind, controlled human clinical trial, part of a broader commitment by the company to invest over $5 million in clinical studies across its finished products, five of which are already completed. In a 24-week trial of pregnant women, the Essential Prenatal demonstrated more efficient folate utilization versus a competing leading prenatal, supported lower overall serum cortisol levels during pregnancy, and showed markers consistent with improved fetal bone formation, while also being rated as gentler on the stomach and easier to take. All 12 ingredients in the formula are fully traceable by supplier and manufacturing location, supporting Ritual’s strategy to differentiate on transparency and quality; the company recently stood alone among supplement brands in backing a California bill requiring public disclosure of heavy metal testing for prenatal vitamins. The product carries third-party validations including the Clean Label Project Purity Award, Non-GMO Project verification, and B Corp certification, reinforcing Ritual’s premium and compliance-focused brand stance. For executives, the Costco rollout signals increased distribution breadth, stronger retail channel validation, and potential for accelerated revenue growth in the prenatal category, while further entrenching Ritual’s reputation as a clinically driven, transparency-led player in women’s health supplements.
