reMarkable is pivoting its core hardware line with the launch of the $399 Paper Pure, a new monochrome E Ink tablet that replaces the six-year-old reMarkable 2 and resets the company’s product baseline around focused, note-taking centric devices. The 10.3-inch Paper Pure keeps the same 1872 x 1404 resolution and 226 PPI as its predecessor but widens the display for improved reading and writing, doubles down on responsiveness with a claimed 50% performance gain, and extends battery life by roughly 30% through a 3,820 mAh cell, while also quadrupling storage to 32GB and cutting weight to about 360 grams.
Strategically, the Paper Pure is designed as a more integrated productivity node in knowledge workers’ daily workflows, adding a web app, calendar sync, automatic conversion of imported cloud documents into writable notebooks, improved handwriting search, and direct integrations with Slack and Miro so handwritten notes can be converted to text and shared or sketched into collaborative boards. reMarkable will sunset production of reMarkable 2 but maintain software updates and support, protecting the installed base of more than 3.5 million devices and 1.2 million Connect subscribers, who generate recurring revenue via cloud storage and collaboration features; the Paper Pure’s bundling options, including a higher-priced $449 package with the Marker Plus stylus and folio, suggest a continued push toward accessory and subscription attach rates, with preorders open now and shipments expected to begin in early June.
