Quantinuum, a leader in quantum computing, has been selected by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to progress to Stage B of the Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI). This selection underscores Quantinuum’s strategic role in achieving utility-scale quantum computing by 2033. The company recently completed Stage A, where it developed a concept design for a utility-scale system named ‘Lumos.’ This initiative aligns with Quantinuum’s public roadmap, which includes the launch of the Apollo quantum computer in 2029 and now extends into the 2030s with Lumos.

Dr. Rajeeb Hazra, President and CEO of Quantinuum, emphasized the significance of this development, highlighting the maturity of their roadmap and the potential to meet DARPA’s objectives. Stage B will involve a year-long evaluation by DARPA’s Test and Evaluation team, focusing on validating technical assumptions and scaling plans for Lumos. In parallel, Quantinuum has deployed its latest system, ‘Helios,’ which boasts the highest fidelity qubits and a next-generation software stack. Helios has already been used for significant applications like simulating high-temperature superconductivity and magnetism, showcasing its industrial utility. Quantinuum’s advancements reflect its commitment to driving the quantum computing revolution, supported by a global team of over 630 employees.
