PuriFire Energy has shared an update. The company announced that it has been selected as a winner in the UK Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 6 (CMDC6) for its TURBO-METH project, developed in partnership with HyperGen – Multi Fuel Micro Turbine Gensets. The project will conduct a pre-deployment trial of an integrated green biomethanol production and utilisation system, combining PuriFire’s hydrothermal gasification-to-methanol technology, which converts wet waste feedstocks into low-carbon biomethanol, with HyperGen’s biomethanol-fueled micro gas turbines for distributed power generation. The demonstration will take place at Shoreham Port, with participation from Shoreham Port, Newcastle University, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, Xpress Feeders, and Associated British Ports, and is supported by the UK Department for Transport and Innovate UK.

For investors, the CMDC6 win and associated government backing validate PuriFire Energy’s technology and enhance its credibility in the rapidly developing maritime decarbonisation segment. Successful demonstration of a scalable, port-based circular energy model using biomethanol could position the company as a key technology provider for net-zero shipping and port electrification solutions. While the post does not disclose financial terms, grants or pilot funding from CMDC6 could help de-risk R&D and deployment costs, accelerate commercialization timelines, and support future revenue opportunities from technology licensing, project development, or partnerships with ports and shipping operators. The collaboration with established industry and academic partners also broadens PuriFire’s ecosystem, potentially improving access to future projects and policy-driven decarbonisation funding in the UK and other maritime markets.
