PuriFire Energy has shared an update. The company has opened an 11,000 sq. ft, purpose-built research and development centre in Royston, Cambridgeshire, dedicated to advancing its hydrothermal gasification technology. The facility will focus on early-stage lab work, feedstock testing, and detailed process validation to convert wastewater and carbon into green hydrogen and bio-methanol. The new centre will also support PuriFire’s CMDC project, developed with partners including Associated British Ports, Shoreham Port, X-Press Feeders, Newcastle University and the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, and backed by the UK Department for Transport.

For investors, the expansion signals a step-up in PuriFire’s technology development and commercialization efforts in the low-carbon fuels space, particularly for maritime decarbonization. The dedicated R&D capacity and structured testing program may shorten time-to-market for its green fuel applications, potentially enhancing future revenue prospects if the technology proves scalable and cost-competitive. Government backing and partnerships with ports and academic/industry stakeholders strengthen the company’s credibility, increase access to non-dilutive funding, and may improve its positioning in emerging markets for green methanol and hydrogen. However, the announcement does not provide visibility into current revenues, capital expenditure for the facility, or commercialization timelines, so the financial impact remains long-term and contingent on successful demonstration and subsequent adoption of its solutions.
