PuriFire Energy Joins UK-Backed Green Methanol Pilot for Maritime Decarbonization

PuriFire Energy has shared an update. The company announced its participation in the UK Government’s Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition 6 (CMDC6), collaborating with Shoreham Port, Associated British Ports, Newcastle University, Xpress Feeders and Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult. The project aims to demonstrate the viability and scalability of green methanol—produced from wastewater and waste carbon—as an alternative fuel for the maritime sector. Key project components include development of a green methanol pilot, third-party life-cycle analysis, feedstock testing, and a scale-up deployment assessment.

For investors, this initiative underscores PuriFire Energy’s strategic alignment with tightening decarbonization policies in the maritime sector and growing demand for low-carbon fuels. Participation in a government-backed program with established ports, academic partners and industry operators enhances the company’s credibility and may support future access to grants, pilot-scale revenues, or commercialization partnerships. If the pilot and life-cycle analysis demonstrate favorable economics and emissions reductions, PuriFire could be well positioned as a technology and production partner in emerging green methanol supply chains. However, the long-term financial impact will depend on regulatory follow-through beyond the IMO’s delayed framework, capital requirements for scale-up, and the pace of adoption of green methanol by shipping operators.
