PuriFire Energy has shared an update. The company announced its participation in the UK Government’s Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition 6 (CMDC6), collaborating with Shoreham Port, Associated British Ports, Newcastle University, Xpress Feeders and Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult. The consortium will develop and test a green methanol pilot project using wastewater and waste carbon as feedstocks, supported by third-party life-cycle analysis, feedstock testing and scale-up deployment assessment. The initiative aims to validate green methanol as a viable and scalable low-carbon alternative fuel for the maritime sector, against the backdrop of delays to the International Maritime Organization’s net-zero framework.

For investors, this project signals PuriFire Energy’s strategic positioning within the emerging market for low-carbon maritime fuels, a segment likely to benefit from tightening environmental regulations and targeted government support. Participation in a government-backed demonstration program reduces early-stage project risk, provides validation through independent life-cycle assessments, and could open pathways to future commercialization and grant or partnership funding. If the pilot proves technically and economically viable at scale, PuriFire could enhance its technology credentials and become a competitive supplier in the green methanol value chain, improving its long-term revenue prospects and strengthening its standing in both the clean energy and maritime decarbonization ecosystems. However, near-term financial impact will depend on subsequent commercial contracts, capital requirements for scale-up, and broader regulatory adoption of low-carbon fuels in global shipping beyond the UK.
