project44 is expanding its Decision Intelligence Platform with a new AI Freight Procurement Agent designed to automate carrier selection, continuous rate benchmarking, and negotiations directly inside its Intelligent Transportation Management System. The tool replaces batch bid events and spreadsheet-driven sourcing with always-on, AI-driven procurement that uses live market data and lane-level carrier performance to optimize cost and service within customer-defined guardrails.
Operating on project44’s logistics data graph, which captures more than 1.5 billion shipments and 700 million logistics events per day across 186 countries, the agent leverages validated performance data from over 259,000 carriers to make sourcing decisions based on real conditions rather than static bid sheets. Embedded in transportation workflows, it can benchmark contracted rates, flag lanes with savings potential or high spot exposure, autonomously launch mini-bids, and recommend or execute awards based on configurable business rules.
The AI Freight Procurement Agent extends project44’s existing Freight Procurement Analytics and multi-agent orchestration architecture, which already supports dozens of AI use cases across the platform to detect and resolve supply chain exceptions at scale. In the last year, project44 agents have initiated nearly one million automated carrier communications, and the new procurement agent applies the same orchestration framework to rate optimization and continuous procurement execution.
Governance and control are positioned as central design principles: shippers define rate thresholds, carrier eligibility, and contract parameters, and can start in recommendation-only mode before allowing autonomous renewals or awards within set limits. All actions are auditable, with transparent data inputs and performance metrics to support procurement oversight and compliance.
Early customer deployments indicate the agent can reduce freight spend by about 4.1 percent while cutting sourcing cycle times by up to 75 percent and lowering manual coordination efforts by roughly 70 percent, as the agent engages thousands of carriers in parallel rather than sequentially. Founder and CEO Jett McCandless framed freight procurement as one of the largest controllable cost levers in the supply chain and positioned the agent as the mechanism that turns Intelligent TMS analytics into autonomous execution under strict guardrails.
The AI Freight Procurement Agent is scheduled to be available commercially within project44’s Intelligent Transportation Management System beginning in March 2026, reinforcing the company’s strategy to move from visibility and analytics into automated decision-making and execution across the supply chain. For executives, the launch signals project44’s intent to deepen its value proposition in freight cost management and procurement efficiency, potentially increasing platform stickiness and expanding wallet share among large shippers that prioritize continuous optimization over periodic bid cycles.
