Portkey has open-sourced its unified Gateway, moving core capabilities such as governance, observability, authentication, and cost control from a separate SaaS model into a fully open-source control plane for production AI. The release also includes an open-source MCP Gateway to manage and govern AI agents as they interact with enterprise tools and systems, positioning Portkey at the center of the emerging agentic AI stack.
The Gateway already sits in the critical path of large-scale production AI, handling more than 1 trillion tokens and 120 million AI requests daily while overseeing over $180 million in annualized AI spend for more than 24,000 organizations. Backed by a recent $15 million Series A funding round led by Elevation Capital with participation from Lightspeed, Portkey aims to make this enterprise-grade infrastructure broadly accessible to engineering teams, providing the governance, policy enforcement, and real-time visibility needed as AI agents become operational actors inside large enterprises.
