Pivot Energy has launched a multi-year community investment partnership with Sustain Our Future Foundation, leveraging its five-year framework agreement with Microsoft to develop up to 500 MW of community-scale solar projects across the U.S. from 2025 to 2029. The collaboration, centered on Microsoft’s first major distributed generation framework and Pivot’s largest REC agreement to date, is designed to tie new solar generation directly to local economic inclusion and climate resilience initiatives.

The program’s first tranche totals $400,000 in grants to Garrett County, Maryland, funding home electrification and weatherization, localized flood mitigation, renewable energy workforce training, and circular-economy businesses. Pivot’s CEO Tom Hunt said the initiative demonstrates how developers and corporate buyers can align renewable procurement with tangible local benefits, while Microsoft and SOFF emphasized that communities will guide how funds strengthen climate resilience and affordability. Executives should view this as a template for integrating offtake, ESG, and community-benefit strategies into distributed generation portfolios, potentially enhancing project acceptance, de-risking development, and reinforcing Pivot Energy’s positioning as a scale player in U.S. community solar tied to large corporate decarbonization goals.
