Pictor Labs has introduced an on-premises deployment system that embeds its AI-driven virtual staining directly into pathology labs, eliminating reliance on external cloud infrastructure and associated data transfers. The dedicated hardware connects to existing slide scanners and image management systems, effectively converting standard scanners into high-speed virtual stainers and enabling secure, local use of ClearStain, ReStain, and DeepStain across digital pathology workflows.
By keeping tissue images within the hospital or lab network, the On-Prem system is designed to ease regulatory, privacy, and security concerns while potentially shortening IT and compliance reviews compared with cloud-only deployments. The inference-only device runs pre-evaluated Pictor models at seconds-scale latency, supports operations in low-bandwidth or high-security environments, and offers optional connectivity for updates, giving institutions flexibility to choose on-prem, cloud, or hybrid architectures.
Pictor Labs positions this as a first-to-market, production-ready AI hardware platform tailored to pathology, with predictable performance and no need for local model training or tuning. CEO Yair Rivenson describes the system as a key step toward making “deployable AI” routine in pathology, while VP of Product Megan Rothney emphasizes local control and speed as critical for lab adoption and workflow integration.
Although the On-Prem solution is currently labeled for Research Use Only and not for diagnostic procedures, it broadens Pictor Labs’ commercial footprint from cloud-based to hardware-enabled deployments, potentially increasing revenue opportunities through capital sales and ongoing software usage. Strategically, this move strengthens the company’s position in the digital pathology market, targeting organizations constrained by connectivity, compliance, or security requirements and laying groundwork for future clinical and diagnostic applications as regulations and standards evolve.
