Persona has integrated its age assurance platform with ConnectID, an Australian digital identity network, to help businesses comply with the country’s new under-16 social media legislation while minimizing data exposure. The partnership lets organizations confirm whether Australian users meet an age threshold (for example, over 16 or over 18) using verified data held by major banks, without transmitting identity documents or even basic personal details such as names or dates of birth.
Under the model, banks act as the source of truth and ConnectID serves as a conduit, while Persona orchestrates the age check within its broader compliance and identity infrastructure. End users select a participating bank, authenticate through their familiar banking app interface, and consent to sharing only an age-eligibility confirmation back to the requesting platform, reducing both regulatory risk and data-retention obligations for businesses.
Persona highlights that neither it nor ConnectID ever sees or stores sensitive identification data, aligning the integration with privacy-by-design requirements and the ISO/IEC 27566 framework. This approach is intended to limit oversharing of user information, lower the risk and cost of holding identity documents on corporate systems, and support firms facing increasing scrutiny over how they handle minors’ data in regulated online environments.
The integration adds another option to Persona’s existing suite of age assurance methods, which includes techniques to estimate, infer, and verify age with varying levels of assurance and friction. By providing multiple pathways to compliance within a single platform, Persona aims to position itself as a central infrastructure provider for companies navigating divergent national rules on youth protections and harmful content.
Both Persona and ConnectID were previously evaluated in the 2025 Australian Age Assurance Technology Trial, where they were rated among the highest for technology readiness, signaling near-term deployment viability at scale. Persona’s technology has undergone several third-party audits and certifications, and the company already supports customers such as Substack in implementing privacy-centric age checks in Australia and other markets.
Strategically, the ConnectID integration deepens Persona’s presence in Australia and strengthens its relevance as governments globally tighten requirements for social media and digital platforms serving minors. For executives, the development underscores a shift toward bank-backed, tokenized age attestations that can reduce compliance exposure and operational burden, while differentiating Persona as a provider of flexible, privacy-first infrastructure in over 200 countries and territories.
